Our client located IN Weymouth is seeking an Assistant Manager (Builders Merchant) to join their team on a permanent basis. They operate two-shift pattern – 07.30am to 15.30pm or 09.00am to 17.00pm (Sat 08.00am to 12noon). As an assistant manager, you will be running both the shop front and warehouse. You will require a full manual UK driving licence and own vehicle. The company also offers a bonus scheme and staff discounts to be discussed at interview level.

Responsibilities to include but not limited to:


  • Ensure staffing levels are planned and managed to meet the needs of the business
  • Assist manager to ensure daily tasks are planned and communicated to all relevant staff.
  • Assist manager to ensure sales targets are regularly communicated to all staff.
  • Ensure all staff are trained to meet company standards of customer service.
  • Site visits to build sales at existing and new customers in the local area.


  • Assist manager in monitoring stock levels and placing orders on stock to meet the sales of the business.
  • Ensure shop and warehouse stock accuracy levels are maintained and discrepancies investigated in a timely manner.
  • Ensure timely implementation of agreed promotional activity.
  • Assist manager in continuous improvements of shop/retail standards.

Health & Safety

  • To work with the health and safety manager to maintain standards.


  • Recruit, manage and train staff to meet the needs of the business.
  • Arrange and conduct 1-1 meetings every three months with all warehouse staff.

CV must show:

  • Builders merchant experience would be an advantage
  • Ability to manage a team and lead by example
  • Stock / warehouse monitoring experience
  • IT literature
  • Confident communicator on all levels

Candidates must hold:

  • Passport or Birth Certificate with proof of National Insurance
