UK Employment Levels at record High
The employment rate in the UK is now at a record high of 74.5% and the unemployment rate is at its lowest level in over 10 years at 4.9%.
The Office for National Statistics confirmed that there are a record 31.75 million people now in work – up by more than 606,000 in the past year and by 2.7 million since 2010. The number of unemployed people in the UK fell by 52,000 to 1.64m between April and June.
The figures also show that for July, the first full month since the vote to leave the European Union, there were 763,600 people claiming unemployment-related benefits, 8,600 fewer than for June 2016 and 27,100 fewer than for the corresponding period last year.
These record highs and lows are having a significant impact on candidate availability throughout the sectors and job categories we supply.
City Centre’s response has been to not only up our spending on advertising and other forms of traditional methods of candidate attraction but also to think “out of the box”. We have recently gone back to some traditional methods of candidate attraction and have had thousands of flyers printed up for distribution throughout the areas we operate in.
Here at City Centre Recruitment we believe that doing nothing is not an option. The vote for the UK to leave the EU has caused an amount of uncertainty and we must be prepared on behalf of our clients to increase or decrease their workforce’s at the drop of a hat.
If you would like more information on how City Centre Recruitment can assist your business ride out this period of uncertainty then please visit our website for details of your nearest office.
